Wilmer Hall Children's Home is a non-profit faith-based organization that has been serving young people in need in Mobile, Alabama since 1864. Wilmer Hall serves children and young adults through several programs that provide tutoring, on-campus living, and other tools needed to succeed. Wilmer Hall currently has five programs: The Residential Program, the Transitional Living Program, the Transitional Family Program, the on-campus after-school education program (called Education4Life), and the Community-Based Education Program. The Community-Based Education program consists of the Philipa Stirling Hamilton Education Center and the Max Miller Education Program.

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Wilmer Hall’s fundraising including, the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. The Director works closely with The Executive Director and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors. The Director of Development is also responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications.


• Fundraisers and special events

• Annual Fund, Legacy Society, Christmas card appeal

• Grant applications

• Track gifts/funding

• Enter gifts and produce acknowledgement letters


• Oversee/maintain brand

• Social media/Website

• Coordinate video production (semi-annually)

• Any publication (Annual Report, brochures, etc.)

• Arrange speaking engagements throughout the community and the Diocese

• eNews correspondence (quarterly)

• Maintain donor relationships

• Volunteer management


1. This is a full-time position.

2. Benefits include health insurance, Life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and paid time off.

3. The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director.


1. Minimum 3 years fundraising experience preferred

2. Previous donor management software experience preferred

3. Knowledge of the Episcopal Church preferred



1. Will be at least 21 years of age

2. Will be a citizen of the United States, or have legal immigration and work status documentation

3. Will possess, and present, a valid college diploma(s) of a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution

4. Are subject to local, state, and federal criminal background checks

5. Will test negative for a variety of illegal drugs, including marijuana

6. Will clear state and national sex offender registries

7. Will provide a work history with specific employers, dates, and contact information

8. Will provide three references—not family members or relatives

Post-Hiring Conditions and Requirements

1. Will comply with training requirements for the prevention of physical and sexual abuse according to diocesan guidelines

2. Will not use tobacco in any form on campus or on commuting trips, and other official business

3. Will not possess or use illegal drugs or other substances

4. Will be available to assist in the event of emergencies, evacuations, staff shortages, and other circumstances as may arise

5. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver license

6. Will comply with reporting procedures and processes of Wilmer Hall’s Worker’s Compensation insurance carrier and other insurers as required

7. Will participate in all training required by management to fulfill the position’s duties
